Don’t Use Twitter Naked

August 10, 2010

That headline is my favorite line about Twitter. But it doesn’t mean what you think. It means that Twitter alone is a cumbersome tool that is not time efficient or easily accommodating to your business needs. The good news is that there are several applications for Twitter that can make it an important business tool. Chose one of these to make your tweeting easier.

Hootsuite is called the social media dashboard. It allows you to monitor and manage multiple networks through one connection. The software allows for the ultimate in organizing and viewing with tabs and columns so you don’t miss a thing that is happening even with hundreds of connections. Other features allow you to track clicks on links you tweet, schedule your tweets ahead of time and post to several sites at the same time (use that very cautiously).

TweetDeck is my favorite. You can divide the people you follow into columns so that you never miss tweets that are important to you. It makes it much easier to track messages sent directly to you, manages multiple twitter accounts, and search or follow a particular topic over time. Connections are available to Facebook, MySpace, LinkedIn, Google Buzz and Foursquare.

Seesmic is known for its ability to integrate both Twitter and Facebook even allowing for multiple Twitter accounts connected to the ability to manage Facebook business pages. The desktop includes the ability to save searches so you can monitor what is being said about you or the topics in your target market. Lists of followers you have made on Twitter can be imported and tracked easily here as well.

Pluggio is a newer entry to Twitter management and also can manage multiple accounts, monitor for your key words and post to several sites. Other interesting features include the ability to collect RSS feeds and tweet from them easily, a friend finder that makes suggestions on who to follow based on who is tweeting topics of interest to you and a big library of How To videos.

Don't forget to "Mind your own Biz".

Warmly,
Janet
